STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. At the executive meeting of the Stratford A. and P. Association last night the suggestions of the subcommittee for the laying out of the show-ground were submitted. It was decided to recommend to the general committee the advisability of registering under the A. and P. Associations Act. A subcommittee to draft a show schedule was set up. The Stratford Girls' Hockey Club travel to Inglewood' to-morrow to play the Papakura Club. Whilst playing, the eighteen-months-olrl son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Main, of Huiroa, liad the, misfortune to fall against the framework of a sewing machine, severely lacerating his forehead. The little sufferer was brought to Stratford to-dav, where the injuries were attended to bv Dr. Menzies.

The Borough Council, if the sale yards are to remain in their present position, might very well consider the question of having certain stock roads. At present several of the side roads leading to the yards are used, and the result is that all are particularly muddy. If one road from each direction was fixed as the stock road it could be put into proper repair and order so that the residents who reside in it or use it .would not be compelled to wade through a sea of mud to reach the footpath. It was pointed out at the recent conference of the Domain Board and Council representatives that the Council bad done nothing to improve the condition of the street giving access to the River Domains. This is quite true, and at present their condition reminds the country settler of the trials of the backblocks road. Of course, the real cause of the trouble is the situation of the sale yards in the centre' of the town. Whether the time has arrived for these to be shifted is a moot point, but if the town continues to expand the subject will have to 'be considered.
