COUNTY COUNCIL AND TOWN BOARD.
To the Editor. Sir, —The action of the Taranaki County Council wit:- regard to the St. A nbyn town distric can only be classed as a blow below iie belt. Take the action of the Council for the Jast year. What have they done to the county road through the St. Aubyn town district? Have they spent a penny in repairs during that time? No; but they collected the rate from that district and let the road go literally "to pot." Why? Because they were under the impression that when the town district was declared they would' lose a certain amount of rates and the clerk would ilose his commission. If the Council want to deal fairly with the St. Aubyn town district could they not strike a very low rate over that 'portion of the county, say onefiftieth of a penny in the £, and earmark the amount received to be expended in the St. Aubyn town district. It is evident from the report of the meeting of the Council that, with the exception of the chairman, the members, were as much taken by surprise at the state of affairs as the members of the St. Aubyn town district must be.—l am, etc., FAIR PLAY,
