COAL IN THE WAIMARINO.
DR. BELL'S REPORT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. _ Wellington, Tuesday. Dr. Bell, Government Geologist, reports as follows on the new coalfield to the westward of Waimarino and Erna station on the Main Trunk line: Sixteen outcrops have been definitely located. Samples were analysed from most of the outcrops, heinff taken from the roof to the floor of the seam. The coal is of subhituminons quality generally known as licrnito, in seams three to eight feet in thickness, interstratified with a great series of conglomerates, sandstones, and impure limestone. Dr. Bell says the coal is high in ash, sulphur, and water, which are all serious defects.
