MINERS TAKING A BALLOT.' i By Telegraph—Press Association. .Westport, Last Night. | In connection with the mining trouble at Denniston, it appears that the only matter now in dispute is the payment of 10s per day for certain work during twenty-four days, the management state the, rate should be 9s per day. The miners, at a mass meeting to-day, decided to resume work to-morrow, but to take a ballot on Wednesday as to whether or not a strike be resorted to. A day's interruption in work at the mine, means a loss of £3OO in wages, j At the conclusion of the mass meet-! ing, the question was raised of urging the Government to appoint Mr. John] Foster, formerly president of the union,' to the Upper House, but the meeting decided, by 200 votes to 5, to take np action.
