THE KNYVETT CAMPAIGN.
MEETING IN WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellingtoh, Last Nignt, About eight hundred people attended the Knyvett meeting, in Wellington to, night. Mr. J. P. Luke,. M!P., presided, owing to the inability of the Mayor to do so. . ■■■.■■■■, , Mr. Luke.,said that, .personally, he considered Knyvett had merited all he had received. M r - R- AjArmstrong, secretary of the Knyvett Defence Glommittee, outlined the history of the case. Mr. Peacock, a member of the committee, said the promoters of the movement did not desire to make political capital out of it. The cause they were championing was l the cause of every of- ' fieer in the New Zealand, defehce forces. The enquiry had been a faree, and the court 'seemed to have been befogged. Mr. A. J. 'Black, of Auckland, fjave details of Knyvett's twenty years of military, service. ' . Mr, R. A. Wright, M.P., movec| a resolution expressing the meeting's strong conviction that Parliament should pass the necessary legislation to provide for a new and fair trial, to Knyvett, "and to pretent recurrence of the travesty of justice" in the case of otliei-s who may be officially accused of military crimes in the Dominion. Mr. D. McLaren, M.P„ seconded the motion, which was supported by Messrs. L. P. Phillips, F. W. Lang, C. H. Poole and T. 'E. Taylor, M's.P. . The motion was carried by those who remained throughout the, meeting, a.bout half the number who were there at the commencement having left.
