I THE BROWN SHIELD. WELLINGTON (8~ WAXGAXUI (1). Wellington, Last Night. Wellington Soccer representatives successfully staved off the first challenge against them as holders of the Brown Shield, defeating Wanganui by 7 goals to 1. The visitors played a good game, but were outmanoeuvred, the score at halftime being three to one in favor of Wellington, who added four more goals in the second spejl. O'Shea, Martin, Timperly (2), Vessey (2), and Mount scored for the winners,* and Davis for Wanganui. The ground uv* very heavy and slippery, giving a slight advantage to the visitors. The next challenge for the Shield is that of Taranaki, and the match will be played on Kith July.
