Strong and variable winds and showers are being experienced at the Bisley Rifle meeting. . - . • The competitors in the Empire Match aTe Britain, India, Singapore, Australia and Canada. The last-named team is using the Ross rifle.. The Australian team is: Armstrong, Boyd, Burgoyne, Cutler, Goy, Grant, Halligan aid Williams.
Following were the leading scores in the first stage of the Empire Match:— Britain 1139 Australia 1136 Canada, 1128
Australia' was third at 200 yds, but after the 500 yds range went up to second place. The Australian scores in the match were: Armstrong 146, .Grany and Boyd 114, Gory 143, Cutler and Williams 141, Burgoyne 140, Halligan 136.
PARTICULARS OF THE SHOOTING. TORRENTIAL RAIN FALLS. eceived July 3, 5.5 p.m. London, July 3. In the Empire Match, Singapore scored 1091 and India 1064. Torrential rain fell several times. Armstrong, Grant, and Williams made possibles at 200 yards, and Boyd made the possible at 500 yards. The highest individual scorer was Wallingford, a Britisher, with 148. Armstrong, an Australian, was next. COLONIAL SHOOTING. Received July 4, 0.40 a.m. London, July 3. A terrific rainstorm swept the ranges when the 900 yards range was being fired. A further heavy rain squall was experienced during the firing at the 1000 yards. This disconcerted the overseas Boyd missing five times at the 900 yards range. Major Paine, commanding the Australians, afterwards expressed the hope that the British would defend the trophy in Australia next year, and declared that the storm at the 900 yards range'destroyed his team's chances.
