ALLEGED ROBBEKY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Yesterday: Lawson Webster and Harold Armstrong, two ybung men, were to-oay charged with having assaulted and robbed an old man on the night of .May 31. , A detective stated that Armstrong had admitted that he participated in the assault. Lawson had signed a statement admitting that Armstrong's story was true, but both accused to-day pleaded not guilty, and were committed for trial.
RAILWAY CONSIGNMENT. Wellington, Yesterday. In the S.M. Court the Railway Department ' Perham,. Larsen and Co. and the Orville Randle of Rangataua, dharging them with wilfully making false statements on consignment notes as to the quantity of timber. They consigned 5520 feet, which on arrival at its destination was found to be 7586 feet. The defence was that the false statement was accidental. The Magistrate thought the department should be'ln a position to prove there was wilful intent to make a false declaration, and dismissed the charges.
ACTION FOR DAMAGES.
Ashburton, Yesterday. At the Court to-day George Good claimed £2O from Craddock and Co., electrical engineers, as damages on account of the death of a horse through the negligent act of defendants in leaving a, coil of wire so exposed that plaintiff's horse shied at it and so injured itself that it had to be shot. Judgment was given for plaintiff ior £ls, with costs £6 9s 6d.
