STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. Mr C. Colson,' who recently ntaao a trip to Napier for the benefit of his health, has had a second relapse, and intends returning to Stratford as soon as his health permits. It is stated that am information has been laid against the plaintiff in the recent wages claim case 'for obtaining money under false pretences. The defendant in the case alleged that the plaintiff failed to sow certain areas which he contracted to sow and which he was paid for, and on this the charge is based. iAn effort is being made to resuscitate the debating society, which once played an important part during the winter months in Stratford. The Uaiion was keenly supported in those days, and there are several prominent men, now resident in other parts of the Dominion, wljo have to look back for their initial lessons in public speaking to the debates that were then held. Of the excellence and value of such an institution there appears to be little doubt, but the trouble seems to be that so far there has been no one keen enough to i take up: the task" of organising those who are prepared to assist. The rails are now laid through the Pohokura tunnel, and it is expected that m another month the train will be able to run to Pohokura. Mr. J. Robson is engaged shifting his sawmill to its new site at Pohokura. As soon as the line reaches that station, and timber can be railed, the new mill will get into full ' swing.
