GOLF.
CAKRINGTON.EOAD CLUB. The match between Waitara and the Carrington Road Club, arranged for yesterday afternoon, did not eventuate, the Waitara players intimating, at the last moment, their inability to come on account of the threatening nature of the elements. The weather, however, kept fine, and a practice game was indulged in, the lady members providing atternoon tea, which was served in the new pavilion. PROPOSED CLUB AT HENUI. There was a fair attendance last night at the Fitzroy Bowling Club pa-, vilion, when a meeting was held to consider the formation of a golf club at Henui. Several apologies were received, | and the names of nine, who were not present, but who desire to become members, were handed in. A committee, consisting of Messrs. Addenbrooke, W. Outfield, J. W. Wilson, Steeds and E. Griffiths. were appointed to inspect the ground in conjunction with one or two experienced members, with a view to selecting a Suitable 0-hole course, estimating the cost of putting the ground in order for play, and erecting a pavilion. The committee have power t<s can'- 1 vass for members if they can see their way clear to run the club on a low membership fee, and to call a general meeting at as early a date as possible. Mr. E. Griffiths has been appointed secretary pro tem. The general tone of the meeting was very encouraging, and those present were of opinion that there would not be the slightest difficulty in forming the club right away. 'Exceptionally favorable terms for the Jinks have been received from Mr. Smith, which Should enable the finances to bei satisfactorily arranged. |
