THE ENGLISH CSAMPIONSHIP.'WON BY WILDING. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Loodoiii June 28. In the final for the kwn tennis championship Wilding beat Beals Wright, the American, the scores being 4—6, 4-fi, 6—3. 6—3, 6—31. AN EXCITING STRUGGLE. Received June 2D, 11.10 p.m. London, June 29. Wright, rushing the net during the early stages of the match, outplayed' Wilding. The third set stood two games all. Then' Wilding's driving on the side lines and volleying proved irresistible. There were many exciting rallies, but Wilding was the steadier in his play. The winner received an ovation at the conclusion of the match. In the doubles championship, fourth round, Doust and Poidevin beat Prebble and Barnes, 6—3, 6—2, 6—3. THE DAVIS CUP. Bv Telegraph—Press Association..Christchurch, Yesterday. In a private letter, Anthony Wild<ng states that he is doubtful if his engagements will allow him to be back in the Dominion until after Christmas. He adds that if the Davis Cup contest had been' fixed for Christchurch he would have put everything else on one sitle.
