Speaking in the Trades Hall, the Premier (Mr. Murray) said he had no objection' to the process of art union being utilised for the extension of the trades hall building instead of being handed to charities. He could not see anything inherently bad in the gambling element. Speculation entered into every phase of life. He did not see 4 any ■harm in a man putting a few shillings, withia his means, on a racehorse. He had always been the friend of labour. Capital' was an excellent thing, but if it were all thrown into the sea people would get on all-right. The worker, however, was indispensable to the progress of the community.
