POLITICAL NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) Wellington, Last Night. The contest for Chairman of Committee of the House is likely to be very keen if Sir William Steward and Mr. Davey go for nomination. Mr. Davy would have defeated Mr. Wilford last session for the position had he gone to the vote. Mr. Vernon Reed, M.P. for Bay of Islands, will iprobaUy move the Address in 'Reply, with Mr. Clark, of Port Chalmers, as seconder. There have been extensive alterations in and about Parliament Buildings for this session, and Bellamy's has again had special expenditure. The Government Whips will probably be Mr. <Macdonald, of Bay of Plenty, and Mr. Ross, of Pahiatua.
