WANGANUI GAS.

MUNICIPAL SUCCESS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. During the ceremony of starting a newly installed booster on Saturday afternoon, some interesting figures 'were quoted relative to the progress made by the Municipal Gas Works during the last four years. Consumers increased from 155S to 2650. Gas made in 1906 amounted to 40,000,000 feet, necessuatmg 3500 tons of coal. This *ear 72,000,000 feet of gas were made from 0786 tons of coal. Cash collected in 1906 was £12,683, whereas this year the total is £23,488. The number of retorts increased from 24 to 68, and a large quantity of improved apparatus has been added to the works, which are now declared by experts to be the most up to date in the Dominion. During the past four years cast iron mains and wrought iron mains were extended fourteen and four miles respectively. Since munkipalisation of the gas works some eight years ago, £13,900 has been transferred in relief of rate.
