DISCOVERY OF SHALE IN TASMANIA. By Cable—Press Assoeiation —Copyright, i Hobart, June 24. Large beds of petroleum shale, with oil oozing therefrom, have been discov ered in the Magnet Range.
OPERATION'S AT MOTU'ROA. During six days the Taranaki PetroCemn Company has saved 120 barrels of oil. During some of the working period the bores were blocked with mud, making the average smaller than it otherwise would have been. It is hoped that during next wee'Jc a better demonstration of the possibilities of the three bores will be made. No. 3 gave three barrels yesterday, and blew 1 oil over the derricks. The record of No. 2 for twentyfour hours was 25 barrels. Members of the Masonic Lodge—visitors from Wellington—made an inspection yesterday. One member was a large shareholder. All were impressed with the possibilities of the industry. Yesterday, at the Palmerston Show, the Well's incandescent lamp exhibited there burned refined Taranaki oil, as an illustration of the magnificent illuminating power of the product that will enrich Taranaki. The oil is being refined by Mr. Grace in the exhibition building.
