FOOTBALL.
NEW ZEALAND RUGBY'UNION. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Management Committee of the Sew Zealand Rugby Union met to-night. The committee authorised the extension for a week of the New Zealand team's tour in Australia, as requested, the necessary leave having been obtained for members of the team. The Otago Union protested against the New Zealand Union's action in upholding the appeal of L. M. Tansey against his suspension by the Otago Union for striking an opponent. The Otago Union asiked that the matter be referred to the English Union, as the New Zealand Appeal Couneil's decision was a foregone conclusion. Exception was taken to the tone of this- letter. It was decided to refer the matter to the Appeal Council.
An intimatiion was received that the tour of the Sydney University team in the Dominion last year had resulted- in a deficiency of £'G4. The folloiwiinlg' programme of matches was arranged for the American Universities' team: Wellington*,, 16th July; Dunedin, 20th;: Christchteh, 23rd; Auckland, 30th. The allocation of the match on 27th July was held' over. The terms for a mateii at Palmerston or Wanganui are to tie ascertained. The team will arrive in' Wellington on 13th July. The Wellington Rugby Union forwaried particulars concerning-, the case of J. Marshall, a member of th> Melrose Club, who had been suspended! for tour Saturdays for assaulting an; opponent. The committee considered' the Wellington Union's sentence an extraordinary one, and unanimously resolved' tIM Marshall be disqualified for two yeaTSi.
