THE LAWS VAGARIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A curious case engaged the attention of the Lyttelton Court to-day. The licensee of a hotel, who also owns a steam trawler, was charged with having paid wages to the master, mate, and two hands of the trawler on licensed premises. For the defence it was contended that the provision in the Licensing Act was intended to apply to manual laborers, and on this ground the informations in respect of the master and mate were dismissed, hi ea.'i of the other two cases the defendant was fined £1 and costs.
