THE BIG FIGHT.
JOHNSON v. JEFFRIES. TO TAKE PLACE ON 4th JULY. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Seattle, June 21. San Francisco reports that it is absolutely certain that the Jeffries-Johnson tight' will take place on the afternoon of 4th July at Reno, iNevada. The arena will have seating for 25,000, and will be built .immediately. Jeffries broke camp on Tuesday, and came to San Francisco. He departs for Reno on Wednesday. Johnson leaves on Thursday, Both are in perfect condition. Fruitless pressure has been brought against- Governor Diekerson, of Nevada, to stop the fight. Governor Diekerson says the battle is lawful and honest. Rickard is his personal friend. Reno is on the principal railroad, ten hours from San Francisco. Cheap excursions are planned, and enormous crowds are expected. The receipts are not likely to be decreased by the removal. Both fighters will make a change in their training methods. There will be more box.ino' and less running. Reno is in a dtisty~desert unfavorable for running. There is a general feeling of relief among sportsmen at the removal of the uncertainty. The ■Laii'z.ford-Ketehell fight will take place at Reno on the morning of 4th July. Bloodshed is feared if Johnson wins, race feeling being so strong at Reno, where there are 15,000 inhabitants, and 30,000 visitors are expected. There is no possibility of controlling the mob if rioting begins. Sporting Life's correspondent says the betting at Chicago is 10.1100 dollars against GOOO in Savor of Jeffries, taken.
