TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
The Land Board continued its monthly meeting yesterday. RANGERS' REPORTS. Mr H.T. Twiss, Crown lands ranger, reported on the application of .Messrs. Parker Bros, for part sec. 13, blk. !), Opaku.—Resolved, that the mutter be left in the hands 01 the Commissioner to ascertain by wlnu process uie desired object can be attained. He also reported on the app.k-atiorr of E. E. Prior for part sec. 2, blk. 11, Mahoe—The report was adopted, and the necessary land made a road reserve. E. Tolme, ranger, reported on the application of J. Aiibunaul for part sec. 4 blk. 10, Ohura.—Resolved, that if the necessary survey is made immediately by an authorised surveyor, or tne urea that will be. absorbed by a straight line from the next side pes adjacent to L 111, and going northwards to the boundary peg :No. ill, on traverse, the Board i will recommend that the applicant be allowed to acquire the land. He a.so reported upon the proposals for expenditure of thirds by the Ohura County Council, in payment of interest on loan proposed to be raised for metal' ling.—Resolved, that bearing in mind the necessity for the maintenance of the roads irr the county, upon receipt of petitions from the selectors affected, that the thirds should he expended in interest, the Board will deal with the matter. The i'anger reported also on sees. 9 : blk 0, Aria and 3 and ,4, blk. 10, Aria.— The land will be offered on the earliest opportunity for survey under optional conditions. The same ranger forwarded an application from F. P. Wilke for a piece of Crown land near Matiere village.—Resolved, that a lease be granted for twelve months, subject to termination by a month's notice in tire event of the land liein'g required. FORFEITURES RECONSIDERED. E. A. Meredith, assistant ranger, ireported that two more selectors had arrived in the Mapara 1.F.5., and three more in the Tangitu settlement. The Board reconsidered the forfeitures of those who,had not arrived on their sections, or on the road works. , It was resolved that the forfeiture of the interests of the following selectors in the Mapara settlement be confirmed: A. Hollingworth and J. E. Mortensen, and that the forfeiture of R. Johnson's interest be rescinded. The forfeiture of the interests of the i following settlers who had not replied to the notice of forfeiture, or who 'had not arrived on the settlement, were confirmed:—iThos. Action with regard to C. tSehon, CJ F. Benjamin, F. Hanwright and T. H. Rob--1 inson was further suspended, they having intimated that they were proceeding to the block. The Under-Secretary for Lands askec if the Board would recommend the pay ment of £2OO from accrued - thirds h the Kururua riding as a grant toward! completing the bridge over the Ongaruc river.—The request was acceded to. Messrs. Broadfoot and Finley, on be half of the Ohura County Council, askec that the Board should take action, to re cover rates due by Crown tenants.—Re solved, that the Board can take no ac tion until the Council has exhausted al legal remedies for recovery of th amounts due. Bowman and O'Connor applied for i j year's exemption from residence on sec • 2 blk. 4, Ranai, as they had missed th burn last year.—The Board could not se its way to grant the request. Four settlers in the Clandon settle ment (Toko) applied for remission o rent on their holdings.—The Board wa unable to make the desired recommen dation to the Government in the mat ter. j The Commissioner was empowered t deal with the application of F. Bloorr 1 field to exchange sec. 4 blk. 8, Omm for a smaller section, on account of 'Hi wife's bad health. J. L. Kennett applied to exchange sec 10 blk. 2, Totoro, for sec. 20 blk 45, Tc , toro.—Granted, subject to his taking in L! mediate possession. j J. Christiansen applied to exchang sec. 2 blk 4, Totoro, otherwise he woul , have to forfeit.—The surrender was ac cepted, and his name will be considere in dealing with other sections. Messrs. Malone, Anderson and Join stone's request for extension of time i which to register the transfer of se 8 blk 1. Taurakawa, from A. B. Crud: to W. B. Smith and others was ac ceded to. The Commissioner advised the Boar that the amount of consideration in tli transfer of sec. 2 blk. 3, Waro (Hagenso and Scott to C. H. and R. Scott) ha been increased. —Approved. D. J. Creech applied for exchange c sec. 11 blk. 11, Mapara, for one lei rough.—The Board declined the reques and was of opinion that an exchanj; would not better his position. IT. T. 3. Medcalf waited on the Board in respect of an application by G. F. Wray, his partner in sees. 10 and 11 blk 4, Ngatimaru, to transfer his interest to j him.—Under the exceptional circumstances the transfer was approved, conI ditiomilly upon the improvements o:i j see 11 being brought up to the require-1 i ments within six months. C. Joyce's application for reconsideration of his app.ication for sec. 12 blk 9, Olmi'a, was deferred for further information. ( H. Street's application for a further ex- : tension of time in which to take up his residence on sec. 3 blk. l(i, Oliura, was deferred for a month. A plan of a proposed road through sec. 1 blk. 2, Omona, was submitted by the Stratford Count • Council. —Upon the consent of the Council being given, the deviation will be approved.
