MILITARY INSPECTION.
SOME PERTINENT VIEWS. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received June 21, 10.30 p.m. London, June 21. Sir Charles Lucas said that whatever form of inspection was to be arranged they could only be at the Dominions' request. Lord Crewe said that probably the dominions would welcome inspection, when it was considered necessary. The matter was not urgent in view of Lord Kitchener's and Sir J. D. P. French's recent inspection. Viscount Middleton asked whether the Commander-in-Chief would inspect all parts of the world, and also command the troops in Egypt, Malta and Gibraltar. He asked also whether the multifarious assortment o° ilu'.ies would be continued, what function-? the Duke of Connanght found impossible to discharge with advantage, and what duties Lord Kitchener found incompatible with his Field-Marshal's position.
Sir Charles Lucas hoped to table papers on the subject shortly.
Mr. Haldane has issued a statement regarding inspections of the dominions. The Government proposes to discuss the arrangements at the Ministerial Conference in 1911.
