RIFLE SHOOTING.

A TRIANGULAR MATCH. A very sociable match was tired on the local range on Saturday afternoon between teams (ten men on each side) from H.M.S. Pioneer, Taranaki Guards, and Taranaki Rifles. The weather was very unfavorable for good shooting, the conditions being unpleasant and difficult. It was bitterly cold, with a from medium to strong rear left wind and occasional driving showers. On the whole the scores were much below the average, which is not to be wondered at under the circumstances. Afternoon tea was provided on the range, and was much appreciated by the competitors. After the match the men of the Pioneer were entertained at dinner at the Taranaki Hotel by the Guards and Rifles. The following are the scores:—
