A landslide has blocked the St. GotSiard tunnel, and the Rhine has risen fifteen feet. The crops at Basle are inundated, and the vines destroyed. A mother and her eleven children were drowned at Altdorf. Her husband, with the remaining two children, were saved. A steamer for Lucerne was unable to ■'eh the submerged landing stages. The prospects of the harvest in the Balkans are seriously endangered by the floods.
