BRITAIN'S POSITION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, June 16. Sir Hugh Bell, M.P., the well-known Middlesborough ironmaster, speaking at a meeting of the Free Trade Union, said that the production of iron and steel by the companies of the United States had grown at a greater rate than in Great Britain, solely because they had immense stores of iron ores, whilst those of Britain were practically exhausted. He quoted statistics-to show that the iron trade had not Suffered by the absence of protection.
