Lady Violet Brooke Hunt, organising secretary of the Women's Unionist and Tariff Reform Association, is dead.—Loudon cable. Miss MeAllum has tendered her resignation as nurse at the New Plymouth Hospital, and Miss Ivy Nixon has resigned her post as probationer. The death is announced at Xew Maiden, Surrey, of Miss 0. S. Morshead, daughter of the late Captain E. Morshead, of Xew Plymouth, aged seventyone. There is some -doubt whether Lord Islington will land at the Bluff or Wellington. The Prime Minister is now.com- ' municating with Lord Islington at Adelaide. Reception arrangements are meantime delayed. Mr. E. A. Heath, who was for some years with Messrs. Ambury Bros., i* again in New Plymouth. He is acting for Mr. A. M. Bryden in the sale of the stock of Mr. J. Blyth, who is retiring from 'business. Mr. Robert B. Maeluff, B.Sc, E.M., and formerly director of the Karangahake School of Mines, has been appointed by the Education Board to the position of mathematical master at the Auckland Technical School. Friday last was the fourth anniversary of the death of the Right- Hon. R. J. Seddon, who died at sea on boaTd the steamer Oswestry Grange while travelling from Sydney to New Zealand. A number of wreaths were placed upon the grave on Observatory Hill, Wellington. At Wellington on Saturday the death took place of Mr. W. Coffey, journalist and secretary of the Wellington Boxing Association. Mr. Coffey took a keen interest in various forms of sport, being especially enthusiastic in football and amateur athletics. He was a member of the N.Z.A.A.A. and of the Wellington centre. Some years ago he was shipping reporter for the Evening Post, and occupied a similar position in Dunedin. Miss Doris Cecilia Featherston Johnston, third daughter of the Hon. C. J. Johnston and grand-daughter of the late Dr. Featherston, first Agent-General for the colony in London, and first Supreintendent of the Province of Wellington. ■was married at Karori on Saturday to Captain the Hon. Hansell).—Press wire. There passed away at Pungarehu on Tuesday evening a very old resident in the person of Mr. Walter Henry Clarke. sen., who for m'any years 'lived at Tataraimaka. The deceased was one of the few remaining Taranaki Military Settlers, and came to this district itt 1S(!3. After serving his term in: theabove force he settled on his military grunt of land on the Timaru road. About twenty years ago he met witli an accident—a serious injury to the spine—from the results of which he became blind, and later on bedridden. About six or seven years ago he went to live with his daughter (Mrs. W. Harvey, of Pungarehu), at whose residence he passed quietly away at the age of sixty-seve» years.
