(From Our Own Correspondent). Waitara,. Last Night

The insurance fund of the Clifton Foptiball Club shows a ibalance in the Savings Bank of £ls 7s, against which there are a couple of claims to the extent of about £1 7s, leaving a credit balance of £l4. So far the club have been, fortunate in having no claims, and if on., the average no more accidents occur than have during the past few years, a substantial fund will soon be built up. Flags were flown half-mast at both Waitara and Clifton Rowing Club sheds cut of respect to the niemor.y. of the late A.. McAlpine. Several suppliers of the Waitara Dairy Company are now running over 6 points in. testing, one, who has a fair amount of milk, going as far as 6.7 for the past month. Needless to say, the herds giving such, fine results are of the Jersey breed, either purebred or good grades. Such a herd must pay the dairy farmer, for it costs no more to keep a good revenueproducer than it does to keep a '•'scrubber." The initial cost may b» more, but the extra return in the shape of a bigger factory cheque, besides the. increased value of the progeny, must more than repay the extra cost of the big butterfat producer. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was due last evening, j when;, if a quorum were present the matter of a site for Hatrick and Co. and the retention of the flour-millers,' store would he discussed. A large number of Xgafcrmaru natives arrived by the afternoon train yesterday for the purpose of giving- an entertainment last evening, consisting of hakas,. jp-oi dimccs, and other purely Maori items. The object is to build up. a fund in connection with expenses incurred in regard! to Land Courts, etc. Judging by the price the trustees ■& St. John's 'Hall will be compelled to ask owing to the financial position and ae- | cessity of providing a Sunday school 3«t I of the sale, there is no likelihood of business re.sultincr, for it would be ever so much cheaper to erect a new structure entirely. Old buildings cannot be removed without a coneidenaible amoral} t>f risk, unless they are very solidly built.
