In several cases deaths have been cause. One woman walking on the cliffs at Herne "Bay was struck toy lightning through the medium of a large hat-pin and received a severe shock. An infantry regiment at Konigsbruek (Saxony) was struck by lightning and three men were killed, ten severely injured, and five slightly injured. Lightning damaged the balloon factories and workshops at Farnborough.
