DISASTROUS EARTHQUAKE
ITALY AGAIN OVERWHELMED. SEVENTEEN TOWNS DAMAGED. CONSIDERABLE MORTALITY. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Rome, June 7. An earthquake damaged the beautiful cathedral at Bovnio. Many of the inhabitants of .'.i-.es and Fotrgia tvre camped in the stress. Man/houses have been destroyed and twenty people killed at Avellino, besides elsewhere. The King and Queen of Italy have left Rome by special train to visit the scene of the earthquake. Seventeen towns and villages have been damaged. . Falling houses caused tao majority of the casualties, the victims being asleep at the time. The shock was ur.dulatory. Parties of Carabiniers and sanitary and engineer corps are actively engaged in recovering bodies from the rums. Fissures have torn all the streets in Avelilno and much damage has been done at Calitri and Vellatta. A strong shock was also felt at Montreux, on Lake Geneva,, and in the Upper Rhone Valley, causing'avalanches to come down from the mountain known as Dent du Midi. THE DEATH-ROLL.
