WAITARA NEWS.

(From Our Special Correspondent). The usual monthly meeting of the ■School Committee took place on Monday evening, there being present: Messrs. Pearce (chairman), Ford, Kettle, Johnston, Trim, and Jenikns. The application of the caretaker for an increase in salary, recommended iby the previous committee, was granted, it being pointed out that he had an additional room to attend to now. The headmaster submitted his monthly report, which went to show that the roll now stood at 204, and the average attendance for the month at 204. For the same period last year the average was 240. The Board's inspectors submitted their report on the school, grounds, etc., it on the whole being considered satisfactory. Messrs. Trim and Ford were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing quarter, and on the suggestion of the former it was decided to put in a three-inch drain across the footpath to take storm water from the west side of the school. Accounts amounting to £1 6s 3d were .passed for payment. The many friends of the late Mr. Angus McAlpine, better known to his intimates as "Angy," were very sorry to hear of ,hi-s demise, although it was not unexpected. During his residence in Waibara his services as a sport or entertainer were much in demand. The report that it was probable that no work may be done on the Kiwi road this winter may be not quite correct, as it has been stated elsewhere that roadmaking would soon be (proceeded with. For the sake of settlers in the; district it is to he hoped that the information given me on Monday was incorrect. The contractor for the erection of the Clifton Rowing Club's new hall anticipates that it will !be ready for use at the latter end of next weak. The hall is a spacious one, and contains a small stage for the use of an orchestra. The Waitara Dairy Company pay out to suppliers for May milk £443 8s sd, as against £242«5s Id for May last year, an increase of £2Ol 3s 4d. Milk supplied totalled 202,9381b as against 116,136 lb, an increase of 86,20211b, whilst the butter made was 12,4101b as against 6955 lib, an increase of 2 tons 8 cwt. It has been found necessary to put in a new (boiler at the Waitara Dairy Company's creamery at Huirangi.
