LOCAL INDUSTRIES WEEK.

The following circular is being posted to head teachers of schools in the Taranaki education district:—"The Employers' Association is offering a number of prizes to children attending .primary schools for the best essays sent in on "What I saw of New Zealand-made goods and local industries during Show week." It is desirable that such essays shali be written under supervision at school, and the Association will be glad of your hearty co-operation in the matter.

The children will be divided into four classes, as under:—Class I.: Open to all children of 12 years of age and over attending any of the town schools, wliich include Central, West End, and Fitzroy; Class H.: Open to all children under I'l years of age attending above schools; Class TIL: Open to all children attending all other primary schools in Taramvki of 12 years of age and over; Class IV.: Open to all children attending all other primary* schools in Taranaki under 12 years of a.ge. t Prizes will be allotted in each class as follows:—First prize, book valued at 10s 6d; second, book valued At 7s Gd; tiara, book valued at 4s Od.

A special trophy, valued at 21s, lvill be given to the best essay sent in, irrespective of cla&s. No essay to exceed 500 words. Class number, name of writer, and .school to be at the head of each essay, and to be initialled by the master, as a guarantee that the competitor has entered in the correct class. All essays must reach Mr. A. L. ■Humphries, secretary Employers' Association, box 87, not later than Saturday, 25th June. The judges are Messrs W. J. Penn and T. C. List. Every facility will be given toy members of the association for children to visit the various .printing works, factories, etc., during show, Bth to 11th June. Results will be duly announced in the press.
