THE GOVERNORSHIP
SIR ROBERT STOUT TO BE SWORN
GOVERNMENT AND CIVIC RECEP TIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.
Mr. Justice Coojvr will to-morrow swear in Chief .Justice Sir Robert Stunt as Deputy-Governor of New Zealand until the arrival of Lord Islington. This afternoon, the City Cnaii.-il discussed the procedure to be taken in welcoming the new Governor. :md proposals were considered as to whether it would be preferable to tender the cnief ■greetings at the wharf, with the co-oper-ation of the friendly societies, or at the Town Hall. It had' been suggested that the Government should agree lo .nave the principal official welcoming at the Town Hall, instead of at the steps of the old Parliament Buildings. Sir Joseph Ward was questioned awout the Government's part in the programme to-day, and he reported that so far the Government was concerned with only its own official reception to the acw Governor, and no representations had been made to the Government about cooperating with the citizens of Wellington.
The Mayor (Mr. T. M. Wilford) said, at this afternoon's meeting of the City Council, that he thought it would be undesirable to have a ceremony at the wharf, another at Parliament Buildings, and another at the Town Hall. He suggested a reception at the wharf. This suggestion was approved by the Council. It was understood that there might be a subsequent ceremony in the Town Hall.
