VICTORIAN STATE ELECTIONS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, June 3. The Legislative Council election for seventeen vacancies resulted in small polling. Eight were returned unopposed. For the nine contested seats only one Laborite was returned, Mr. Jones unseating Mr. Pitt for East Melbourne. OLD AGE PENSIONS. Melbourne, June 3. The latest estimate of the Federal Treasury in connection with old age pensions indicates that the expenditure during the past year will be close up to the original estimate of £1,500,000. A LABOR MINISTRY FOR SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, June 3. Both Houses carried motions of condolence with the Royal Family. The moment this was disposed of, Mr. Varran moved that .the House adjourn, which was tantamount to a no-coofi-dence motion. This was carried by 20 to 19, and Mr. Peake immediately resigned. Mr. Varran has formed a Ministry, the ballot for portfolios resulting: Premier and Minister of Public Works, Mr. Varcan; Treasurer and Minister lor Lands,. M. Vaughan; Attorney-General and Minister for the Northern Territory, Mr. Denny; Minister for Education, Mr. Secretary of State, Mr. Wal]is; Minister for Industry and Agriculture, Mr. Wilson.
