T All ANA K [ COMMITTEE. At the annual meeting of the Taranaki Licensing Committee yesterday there were .present: Messrs. L. G. Reid, S.M. (chairman), W. L. Newman, W. •Anibury, J. S. McKellar, and H. Okcy, M.P. The following applications for renewals of licenses were acceded to: — White Hart Hotel, C. Clarke (Mr. J. Quilliam); Red House Hotel, E. Whittle (Mi 1 . Quilliam); Criterion Hotel, J. McKean (Mr. T. S. Weston); Taranaki Hotel, .1. A. Tuthill (Mr. Quilliam); Breakwater Hotel, T. Knowles (Mr. T. S. Weston); Grosvenor Hotel, Mrs. R. Nicholas (Mr. .Staiulis.li); Oakura Hotel (accommodation license), J. Rothery (Mr. J. E. Wilson). Transfers were approved: Terminus Hotel, Francis Foster to Fred. Calgher (Mr. F. E. Wilson); Imperial Hotel, James iSmith to Walter Little (Mr. Johnstone); Oka to Hotel, accommodation license, Walter Little to Mrs. Ellen Little (Mr. Johnstone). Wholesale licenses were granted to Goldwater Bros. (Mr. Quilliam), L. D. Nathan and Co. (Mr. T. S. Weston), and Hawkins and Smith (Mr.- J. E. Wilson). A padket license for the steamer Rarawa was granted to the Northern Steamship Company (Mr. Quilliam). The police report in every case was satisfactory. The inspector recommended renewal of the balconies at the Taranaki and Terminus Hotels, and it was explained that the new licenses were having these attended to. Licensees in New Plymouth were granted permission to extinguish their outside lights at 10 o'clock.

EUMONT. The annua! meeting of the Egmoat Licensing Committee was held at Eltham on Wednesday. The following transfers and renewals were issued:—Coronation Hotel, Eltham, transfer from J. 11. Bleakley to C. Potts; Central Hotel, Eltham, transfer from R. H. Campbell to W. Moore. The application for license for the Oeo Hotel was held over until 29th June in order to have the Health Officer's requirements carried out; and the application for renewal of license of the Otakeho Hotel was also held over for a month in order to have drainage work attended to. Eltham Hotel.—The Health Officer reported this building as being in a. very bad state of repair. The committee paid a visit of inspection to the building during the luncheon adjournment. On the Bench resuming, they decided to hold the application over for a month. Knowles' Hotel, Opunake—The application for renewal of this license wag also held over for a month to allow repairs to be effected to the fire esca,pe and tank stand. Kaliotu Hotel. —The ijis'pector reported that certain sanitary improvements were necessary. The application >vaa held over for a month to allow the improvements to be carried out. The; inspector's report being favorable, renewals were grnted to Opunake Hotel (E. O'Mear: ), and Dominion Hotel at Ivaponga (('. L. Kaspar). A wholesale license was granted to Messrs. Blcnnerliass'ett and Sons. STRATFORD. At the meeting of the Stratford Licensing Committee eight applications for renewals of publicans' licenses, a,nd one for renewal of a wholesale license will be dealt with; and also- applications for permanent transfers of the Railway Hotel, Inglewood, to B. Ford; the Mount Egmont Hotel. Mid hurst, to R. J. Paul; and the Stratford Hotel, Stratford, to F. Rhodes'. The three licensees last mentioned will also apply for the issue of publicans' licenses to them.
