STRATFORD HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board was held yesterday in the Municipal Chambers. There were present: Messrs. W. L. Kennedy, It. H. Cameron, D. Maxwell, Afchol Meredith, E. Marfell, S. A. Ward, and S. M. Porritt. Mr. G. A. Marchant, the chairman of the Board, was unable to be present at the commencement of the meeting, and Mr. Kennedy was voted to the chair. VISITING COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Visiting Committee recommended that a cupboard for medical stores ibe 1 erected in one of the corridors; that a. hood be erected to break the south wind at the back door; that a gardener's shed be erected; that the Borough Council be a.pproachc.l to obtain permission to tem- 1 ■porarily fence off the road -at the buck of thy grounds; that an additional electric bell be installed at the ward entrances; that some channelling be done to prevent scour of storm water 011 paths | (this work to he undertaken by the ensi todian). Tliev also reported that the work of levelling portion of the 'grounds would cost approximately £4l 12s, and Mr. Porritt suggested that this might be done out of the Hospital Saturday funds, adding that it would be a great improvement and convenience. Mr. Marfell said that the adoption of the report would involve the Board in an expenditure of £IOO. Mr. Ward advocated the"ground improvement. Mr. Maxwell: It's my opinion that we're here for the patients' good,' not for the grounds, and Mr. Ward rejoined that a nice lawn, with seats about, would be of benefit to convalescents. The recommendations were adopted, with the exception that the question of making lawns was deferred. GENERAL. The matron's report was to the effect that the working of the hospital was satisfactory. Nurse Lyall had forwarded her resignation, The matron also forwarded an inventory of the apparatus, etc. A letter was received from the Regis-trar-General, in answer to the Board's enquiry, that travelling expenses of members were payable only as between the ■place of residence and the place of meeting. This referred to the case of Mr. Porritt, who, whilst having his home in Stratford, spent practically the whole of his time in working his farm six or seven miles away. Mr. F. A. Warner, Toko road, wrote thanking the Board for sending Dr. Carberv to examine and report upon -his case. Dr. Carbery had visited him and recommended his admission to the hospital.—An order had since been sent to him for admission to the institution, and the patient had been admitted. Tile secretary was requested to send letters of thanks to the matron for forwarding an inventory of the hospital apparatus., etc., and to Mr. E. C. Robinson for his kindness in pfenning out and estimating the cost of improvements to the grounds. The Board accepted the resignation of Nurse Lyall. After some discussion, the matter of expending last- year's Hospital Saturday collections was deferred, .pending a conference with Dr. Valintine on the subject.
