THE CRETAN PROBLEM.
TURKEY MAY FIGHT. GREEK .SHIPPING BOYCOTTED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Constantinople, May 30. The Grand Vizier, speaking in the Turkish Chamber, said the solution of the Cretan problem was by negotiation with the protecting Powers, not with Greece or Crete. He added that if Greece intervened, Turkey would be obliged to have recourse to arms, and would not hesitate at any sacrifice to retain Crete. Telegrams from the provinces s'how that the question is arousing great unrest. The Turkish Minister of Marine has resigned owing to the divergence of his views from the Grand Viziers. Reuter reports that the Young Turk Committee at Trebizend and Panisun, on the Blade Sea. have decreed a boycott of Greek shipping, despite the Porte's disapproval. A mob at Jaffa attacked several Greek shops, and heat the occupants.
