SENSATION IN AUCKLAND.
WOMAN BRUTALLY ASSAULTED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, May 28. A respectable young married woman from the Ray of Plenty, at present on a visit to her parents, was returning from town between 0.30 and 7 juet evening. As she passed the Supreme Court ground)-, within 100 yards of her parents' house, she was accosted .by a man who threw her violently to the ground. A struggle ensued, and the woman managed to free herself. In her fight she met a young girl, who stood by her and helped her to attract the attention of two men who were passing the end of the road.
The latter immediately closed with the man indicated to them as the assailant, and held him until a constable was summoned. Other passers assisted the young woman, in a very distressed state, to reach her parents' home. She wasi very seriously bruised about the body, and had an abrasion on the forehead. Her clothes were torn. 'At a late hour last night the young woman was unable to give a collected account of the outrage, but she seemed easier. The man arrested gave the name of Alexander- McMasters. He is a tall, well-built and welldressed young man of about 24 years.
