The annual report of the Colonial Mutual Life Association showed that the volume of new assurances was not quite 'so large a? in 1908.. though the falling off in the business was counterbalanced by a substantial decrease in expenses, which were reduced over .t'.11,000 as compared with the previous year. The death claims were £15,000 below expectations. The acquisition of the business of the Standard Life Association is likely to prove of considerable advantage, facilitating the industrial branch. The business in force in the industrial branch on 31st December represented a premium income of over ,-£12,000 as a result of six months' work. The actuaries' quinquennial report disclosed a surplus of £2!)8.201 left over for disposal.
