Mr. Arnold-Jones was a passenger t# Auckland per s.s. Rarawa last night. Richard Arnst was entertained at Melbourne prior to his departure for Africa. Mr. Frank Foster, for some time manairr of the Terminus Hotel, died in the/ hospital last night after a lingering illness. The death of the Karl of Stamford is reported by civble. He was born sixty years ago, and took a prominent part in local (government, church', and hospital work. The earldom was created as far back as 1628. Mr. Alexander Littlejohn. of the firm of W. Littlejoiin and Sons, jewellers. died at Wellington yesterday. He had suffered from heart trouble for some years. He was one of the leading chess players in New Zealand, and lather of the wife of Dr. McDiiirmid, recently of Xew Plymouth. Mr. H. Bro'admore, an Inglewood boy, who completed his studies at the Xew Plymouth High School, has been-pro-moted from Blenheim to the New Plymouth Lands Office. Prior to his departure he was made the recipient of a travelling bag «nd toilet set from the St. Andrew's Tennis Club, of which he was secretary since its inception. His Excellency the Governor returned to Wellington yesterday from his visit to the Wanganui and Taranaki districts. Lord Plunket leaves to-day for Dunedin, accompanied by the Hon! J. A. Millar as Minister in attendance. He will hold a. levee at Dunedin on Friday. On Saturday His Excellency goes to Christchurch. and on Monday he will motor through the Ellesmere district. On Tuesday next he will hold a levee at Christchurch, and will leave for Wellington the same evening. A levee is to be held there on; Thursday, 2nd June.
