HALLEY'S COMET.
AUCKLAND OBSERVATIONS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, May 21. Mr. Stevenson, F.R.A S., reports that both oil Friday and 1 lis morning he saw the tail of Halleys comet stretch-j ing acro-s •, >j heavens from near the horizon to nearly the zenith in the ; eastern sky. The tail was much fainter, than the Milky Way. Another broad] band of light, or what looked like another and broader tail, stretched up-j wards, in a wedge shape, from towards] the horizon and between it and the original tail. A darker portion of the sky intervened. Mr. Stevenson is of opinion that we have passed through a section of the comet's tail, and that it may be looked for after sunset to-night.
