A sensation has been caused in Egypt by the announcement that the Mufti lias addressed a declaration to the three Judges that are to hear the appeal of Wardani, sentenced to death for the murder of the Premier, Boutros Pasha v The Mufti states the Judges should" refuse to sanction the death sentence for three reasons: (1) That the revolver wounds were made outside Mahommed's. definitions; (2) that the murderer's victim was a Christian; and (3) that Boutros' relatives did not prosecute. The Mufti's appeal to Mahommedans' passions directly affects the Copts. Wardani's appeal will be heard on June 5.
