STRATFORD DAY BY DAY.
(From Our Residwt Correspondent.) Goods are now befog carried 'by the railway line as far as. Ngatimaru, the next station' to Te Wera. This was commenced yesterday.. I hear that at the last meeting of the Borough Council the Town Clerk was voted and increase in salary. There was only a small attendance at the meeting last night for the purpose of forming a boxing association, and the meeting was adjourned until next week. Properties continue to change hands,' and the latest sale is that of Mr. H. j Fen kin's dairy farm on Wie Pembroke road. Though some of the factories paid out to-day there were not many farmers in town this afternoon. Saturday should ■be a big day, and the canvassers for the Hospital will doubtless enact toll from all and sundry. The comet is creating considerable excitement in Stratford, and in many ] households early rising is trie order of the day. It requires considerable enthusiasm and courage to turn out of a 'warm 'bed in the present bitterly cold mornings for the purpose of being able to, say one has seen the comet. But when it comes to getting up morning after morning without success, as has been the case in several households, then the enthusiasm must be of a very ihigh order indeed. Yesterday afternoon a ladies' stroke competition was played on the local links, Miss Obeli winning wffh the frae score of 62 for 12 holes. The best cards were: Score Up. TI. Miss F. Orbell 62 scr 62 Mfc. R obtusion 76 7 00 Mrs. Menzies 95 12 83 Miss Fussell 87 3- 84 Miss Orbell 89' 3 84
