INGLEWOOD NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent). j The Taylor-Carrington Dramatic Com-' pany played to a full .house on Saturday j night. The performance was especially good, and' the audience fully appreciated its excellence. The Taylor-Carrington Company are well known in Inglewood, and never fail 'to draw a large crowd of playgoers. Memorial services were lield throughout the town on Sunday last as a marie of respect for the late King. The Town Band and the Volunteers assembled in ■the Drill Hall at 10.30 and marched to the Anglican Church, where the service was conducted by tlhe Rev. F. CarewThomas. All. the churches were draped, and at the conclusion >of the services the organists played the Dead March from "Saul." Suitable hymns, psalms, and prayers were rendered. On Monday evening the Bowling Club suffered defeat at the 'hands of the Games Club in a cribbage match. The tussle was keen, as is proved by the scores—3B to 34. A cyclist's chances of catching the morning mail train the other morning was the subject of many and diverse expressions of opinion, and had a "bookie" been on the spot {he might toave made some modest wagers. Despite prognostications to the contrary, "the knight of the ibyke," putting in a strong run in the straight, got up in time to win by a short head, as sporting parlance ■has it. On account of the (holiday for the funeral of the late King, nil local dairy companies are paying out on the 19th instead of the 20th. The following are the various amounts: Moa £2496, Maketawa £1234, Tariki £758, Lepperton £SBB, Waitui £2/1, Tarata, £260. The Moa Dairy Company intend paying a :!>onus of Id per lb on tihie 20th June next. A "May Fair" in connection with the Inglewood, Miuiuirst, and Tariki branches of 'the Wesleyan. Church is •being held in tihe Parish Hall on' Wednesday and Thursday next, the 25th and 26th instant. Inglewood has been unavoidably omitted from the itinerary of His Excellency the Governor, and preparations for his reception :have ceased. ■ We read that Scott, who scales 13®tj 71b, \va« plucky enough to haw a go at Bain (lfet 41b j in Wellington, but Inglewood goes one better. This afternoon a gig attached, to a horse tried conclusions wilh a railway engine ait tihe Junction road crossing. Despite a plucky and j well-sustained effort on the part of his smaller antagonist, tiie engine, which ■started a strong favorite, gjwned the verdict. One sluaft of the gig was broken and one wheel slightly damages, while the harness was in several places •unequal to the strain put upon it. Curiously enough, although, the 'torse fell, 'the gig was not capsized, and none of the occupants were hurt.
