PETROLEUM NEWS

INGLEWOOD OIL COMPANY. A meeting of the directors of the Inglewood Oil Company was held on l'riaay. The chairman (Mr. T. Eurlong) stated that a short time ago he communicated with Dr. Bell, asking when the company was likely to receive the geological report of the New Plymouth subdivision. Dr. Bell had replied with a courteous and lengtny letter expressing his regret that he could give no definite information as to when the report would ibe forthcoming, as a cessation in the work had been caused by the resignation of Mr. Clarke, his assistant geologist, who had received an appointment in the Auckland Unrver-! sity. Dr. Bell would like to complete the work personally, but this was impossible, as he woiud be busily engaged in the Waihi district for several months to come. The letter was to a certain extent of a private nature, and in the aibsence of a detailed geological report, Dr. Bell was not prepared to give any information as to what his conclusions were. In a general way, however, tie (the chairman) gathered that the west side of the Waitara river was more favorable for operations than the eastern side, whilst around Inglewood the features were considered highly favorable.

Dr. Bell- extended an invitation to Mr. Furlong to meet him rn Wellington on the 18th inst., when he would supply all information concerning the survey so far as it had advanced, and would also explains maps, etc. The chairman explained that it would be impossiible for him to proceed to Wellington on that day, but thought it •necessary that a delegate should meet •Dr. Bell. He (proposed that Mr: C. Aider be appointed, and also that he be requested to urge the Government to push on with the survey.

Mr. Watkins seconded and the motion was agreed to. On the motion of Messrs. Spencer and Gray it was also resolved that the secretary communicate with the Taranaki Petroleum Company, the Standard Oil Company of New Zealand, and the Oil and Freehold Company, asking them to appoint delegates to urge upon the Government the importance of completing the work.
