During the hearing of a case at the Quarter Sessions the Crown Prosecutor declared that Sydney appeared to- be ■honeycombed with dishonesty, and he feared if a comparison were made it would occupy an unenviable position among Australia® cities.
AUSTRALIAN FINANCES. Sydney, May 13. The Victorian Premier is .visiting Sydney, and conferred with Mr. Wade on the question of the financial relations between the States and the Commonwealth. It was decided, if suitable to Mr. Fisher, to hold a Premier's conference at Melbourne on June 17 to further discuss the question. TIMBER FOR GUTTER BOXES. Sydney, May 13. Pike and Company have secured a contract for the carriage from New Zealand of eighteen million feet of while pine for the recently formed cooperative butter box factory. The contract provides for six million feet to be delivered in Sydney annually. Pike and Co. are arranging to increase their present fleet of vessels. DISCOVERY OF COPPER ORE. Melbourne, May 13. An important discovery of copper ore is reported in the vicinity of the State Coal Mine.
