SUPREME COURT.
A BEFITTING SENTENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Robert Anderson was to-day sentenced to five years' imprisonment on a charge of committing a serious of> fence against a young girl.
CHRISTCHURCH CASES. Christehurch, Last Night. At the Supreme Court James Lewis, alias Johnson, on an admitted charge of forging and uttering, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. , D. A. Hamilton, on three admitted charges of forgery," was Sentenced ta eighteen months'. John Trembath, alias C. W. Ross, who pleaded guilty to a charge of forgery, was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. Frank Reed pleaded guilty to serious charges of stealing various sums of monies from the Lyttelton Pirates' rootball Club. He was remanded till tomorrow, pending the probation officers' report. Harry Shaw pleaded guilty to for* gery and was remanded till to-morrow for sentence. Thomas Francis O'Connor pleaded nofi guilty to a charge of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of sixteen years. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty. >*v t Charles Fahey, a young man charged" with cruelty to a horse, was, after the evidence had boon heard, found not guilty. Cecil Herbert Jeffreys, eighteen years' of age. was charged with having broken the terms of his probation. His Honor decided to give him anoth-r chance, and admitted him to three years' probation under certain conditions. James Carny was found guilty of theft from the person. Sentence T?as postponed till to-morrow.
