"ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED." Napier, May 11. The adjourned inquest on the body of Henry B. Holland, who was swept off the breakwater wharf and drowned on April 25, was held to-day, when a verdict of "accidentally drowned" was returned, with a rider that up till April 24 the life-saving appliances were W good order, and were found but partially damaged through the storm of that night, and that there was no delay in rescue work. add MAORI CYCLIST'S DEATH «,~k.., Hastings, Last Night.
Mr. McCarthy, Coroner, conducted fla inquest at Hastings this afternoon touching the death of a. Maori named Whero Rapano, more generally known as W. Bobin, aged about twenty-seven years. The Coroner found that deceased met his death consequent on injuries received whilst riding a motor cycle- on the Heretaunga road on 7th May, which cycle collided with a spring cart. The Coroner further found that the collision happened at 7 p.m., and the cycle bad no lights and 'was travelling at a rate of not less than twenty miles an hour 1 , deceased being at the time .under the influence of liquor. Mr. McCarthy added another finding that disregard of the law ,hy persons driving all manner of vehicles in Hastings and vicinity was a serious menace to those using the highway, and called for increased vigilance of the police.
A SAD AFFAIB. ' Greymouth, Last Night. A very sad death occurred at Ruuanga State mines yesterday, .when Mrs. Brown (nee Heron) died in a fit. Deceased was only married on Saturday last, and was si. native of Greymouth. The deceased was welKknown and highly respected. KILLED BY A TRAIN. Greymouth, Lant Night." A man named Frank Wardsley -ma killed bv a train on Tuesday evening at Kaniala, between Reefton and Greymouth.- His bodv, cut in pieces, wais'discovered this morning. An inquest -will he held to-day. VICTIM OF THE OTIRA ACCIDENT. Greymouth, Last Night. The inquest on Charles Beemer occupied the Court all day. At the conclusion of the evidence tie jury desired t» visit the scene of the accident, and the enquiry was adjourned till the 17th to enable them to do so.
