The Dowager Queen Alexandra, in a message to the nation, declares: "From the depth of my poor broken heart I wish to express my deep-felt thanks for all your touching sympathy in my overwhelming sorrow and unspeakable anguish. Give me a thought in your prayers, which will comfort and sustain me in all I still have to go through." After thanking every class, high and low, rich and poor, for their touching letters and tokens of sympathy, she adds:
"I confide to your care my dear son, who, I know, will fol-low-his dear father's footsteps, begging you to show to him the same loyalty and devotion that you have showed his father. I know that both my dear son aiKl daughter-in-law will do their utmost to merit and keep it."
