PETROLEUM NEWS

At the meeting of the Clifton County, Council yesterday a letter >\vas received' from Messrs Watkins and Fox, asking the Council if they would give permrs-j sion for the laying down of a pipe line under the roads or across streams.: They expected shortly to have companies boring for oil in Taranaki,i and it might be necessary to pipe oil from the scat of operations to the harbor. The letter was similar to one forwarded to thi Taranaki County Council last meet-1 ing, when the request was granted. i The chairman said it was problematic if their roads would ever be used. Still, if the company were going to spend money in exploiting the oil, he did not think the Council should place any obstacles in their way. It was resolved that the Council accede to the request,, subject to the conditions set out in the letter, and also subject to the approval of the County engineer or other persoii who may represent the Council.
