AN OLD MAN DROWNED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. • Thomas Jones, aged eighty-three, was drowned this morning at Port Chalmers. Deceased, who resided with his son, left home early this morning, and went down to the docks for the purpose of borrowing a small screw jack. As it was usual for him to go for early walks, his absence from home was not commented' on About !• o'clock a man noticed a hat and walking stick lying on the wharf on the south side of the entrance to the old dock. Deceased was found floating dead in the water near the outlet from the dock pumps. Mr. Widdowson held an inquest this afternoon, when the evidence showed that, as the result of an accident to his head, deceased was subject to dizziness when stooping down. The verdict was to the effect that death was due to asphyxiation from drowning.

THE OMONA ACCIDENT. Eltham, Friday. "Baby" Hill and H. Collins, two of the victims of the' 'bushfelling accident, were brought into Eltham at (5 o'clock this morning. An examination made by Dr. Harrison at midday disclosed that no bones were broken, but the patients are suffering from severe squeezing, Hill's back being badly braised. The two patients are inmates of a private hospital, and may take some weeks to recover. The .third man, Norris, though slightly injured,' is not under medical attention. The accident occurred yesterday morniii;;-, Hill being pinned by a dry tree on the face of a steep cliff, while his two mates, in endeavoring to effect his rescue, were also injured.
