RIFLE SHOOTING
GUARDS B v. STRATFORD RIFLES B. Eight men representing the Taranaki Guards B team journeyed to Stratford yesterday and fired a match against a similar number representing the Stratford Riilc Club's B team. The conditions were iseven shots each at 200, 500, and 600 yards, and the match resulted in a' win for the local team by 36 points. The last two linen of the Guards' team were down almost in the dark, and their shooting suffered accordingly. The visitors were hospitably entertained. An extremely enjoyable land interesting match was fired on Thursday afternoon between the Mangorei Rifle Club ■and the Taranaki Rifles at Mangorei. It was a very uleasant day with an almost total absence of wind; the light, however, was changeable, and consequently rather troublesome. The match was started at 500 yards, then 600 yards, leaving the 200 yards range last. As it was, the light was very bad when tlie Jast men were firing at' 200 yards. At the conclusion of the 500 vards the club were leading by two points; at the finish of the 600 yards 'the Rifles had gained six points, and were then leading by four; at the 200 yards range the club reduced this lead by one noint, leaving the Rifles victors by the narrow margin of three points. The pleasure of the match was greatly enhanced by the hospitality pf the club. The following are the scores:-^
