SWEPT BY A HURRICANE
A SCHOONER KNOCKED Alii'l T. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, Wednesday. The auxiliary schooner Waipu, which left for liisborne on 11th April, was towed into port last night. The schooner had lost both her masts, and the starboard bulwarks were completely' carried away. The deck was strewn with- wreckage, including the remnants of three boats. Two days after leaving Auckland the main rigging was carried away in a heavy .gale oil Oreti. Hicks Bay was reached with the engines. On 21st April, four days later, a hurricane broke over the vessel, and heavy seas were shipped. The starboard main rigging, stanchions, and rail were carried away. The mainmast broke oil close to "the deck. A few hours later the foremast and bowsprit broke off close to the deck. The pumps were disabled and the men were baling all night, while the vessel drifted helplessly. A jury mast was rigged at night. Next day, the weather moderating, tlie vessel was jury rigged and the .pumps were got in working order. Yesterday afternoon the steamer Ennerdale, inward bound, sighted and towed the schooner into port.
